Welcome Back!!!

Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the long wait but we have finally gotten our blog up and running! It's about halfway through the semester, but we have gotten a lot accomplished the last couple weeks. The design team is now on their way to building an affordable and portable negatoscope. Community service is having great success, going to the Children's Museum in Indianapolis with the children from Trinity. Lastly, equipment should be build some kits within the next couple weeks so get excited. If you missed the training session contact Daniel right away! Also, last week we had a booth at E-week and if you weren't there you missed some delicious snacks.
Have a great week and we hope to see you at future events.
Thanks,
Purdue EWH

Spring Semester 2011!

Welcome back! Hopefully everybody had a great break and is ready for a new semester!

This is the somewhat new "website" that I will be trying to keep up to date over the semester. I'll be posting meetings, events, and pictures.

Now a quick recap of last semester with the design team:

We worked on (and still working on) an Infant Respiratory Rate Monitor. The goal of this project is to detect when an infant stops breathing and alert a caretaker so that the infant can be resuscitated.

In order to design this, we worked in the lab, working on a device that could detect chest movement. Our first design implemented piezoelectric strips that would convert the movement into an electric current. However, we are not sure that the strips would produce the power without amplification necessary to power both and LED and a buzzer. We are currently looking at new ways to produce enough power for both the LED and the buzzer.

The design team is always looking for new members/ideas for the project we are currently working on, so get involved!

Con amor,

Grant Wood and the rest of the EWH officers
